A look into the past

[On one particular day, Seta can be found on the observation deck of the Star Rose. She's slowly going through an old looking tome that is written in a mysterious language. Perhaps it's unlike her, but she speaks to herself as she wonders...]

Our late leader...insisted that no records of the war be kept...

...So, why did the Foundation note all the conflicts between humans after that time...?

And in a tome with this title...

[This clearly has her bothered, and after being involved in battles against humans who are as eager to harm others as Kijin from beyond Gates, she has a feeling that she knows the answer to her question.]

[Seta seems hesitant to continue, but...]

...One of these is given to every agent in the Gloster Foundation...

Its title is: The Reminder...

[She pauses and looks down at the book, frowning.]

...And how we, as Kijin who serve our leader's cause, should remain steadfast in our own goals regardless of the harm that they inflict upon each other...

You're supposed to just... ignore what humans are doing?

Is that really alright with you, Seta?

...We are not peacekeepers...at least, not ones that are supposed to meddle in human affairs. We exist as an order...primarily to keep our own kind at bay. This is to ensure that we will not be considered oppressors...

At the same time, there is no rule that prohibits us from intervening, as much as it is not the recommended course of action.

But...

[herodrawing]

I... guess that is a good point.

But?

[caressthedarkness]

...I know that there are humans as vile as the hostile Kijin we have faced. That is part of the reason why 'The Reminder' was created.

Sometimes...I do wonder if I am truly doing what is right...slaying my own kind without remorse and without considering their individual reasons, but protecting humans while being aware that cruel ones exist...

[herodrawing]

But some humans are worth protecting, right? We can't judge the whole species by its worst parts!

And... no matter what their individual reason is, all the Kijin we met who broke from their prison were hostile, right?

[caressthedarkness]

That is true.

The Kijin we have encountered so far have all been hostile...yet I cannot say the same for every single one I have fought, especially before my time with the Unity Group. Some emerged from the Gates dazed and confused...

The Foundation's existence proves that we can suppress our instincts...so, there may be those who are no longer hostile within that prison, and simply wish to escape.

[herodrawing]

Did you... end up fighting them, too?

[caressthedarkness]

...My mission was to eliminate them, and so I did.

[herodrawing]

I see why you're so troubled, now...

[caressthedarkness]

[Nod.]

I will not question the situation if a Kijin is clearly hostile...but from now on, I must ensure that they are...

This...may be a sign there is hope for the Foundation.

[herodrawing]

Let's work together, okay Seta? If there's a team, we can do more and ensure you're not forced to make a decision you'll later regret.
