Wuaaaaagh!

THUMP.

[One glance at the calender clears that up. Only the 24th... though it hasn't exactly been a great month though for other people...]
... Just seems kinda childish now that I'm actually thinking about it..
[Out from her pockets comes a little black book, one she flips through briefly before closing it with a frown and a sigh.]
Just an excuse to get drunk off my ass and think it was justified.

[She tries to dismiss it with a wave of her hand. All that's there is the stump, the prosthetic at a charging station on her bench.]
And... it's Ana. Anastasia Racik.

I'm sorry, I overheard.
[A person in an engineer's overalls approaches, but they don't look like an engineer at all.]
But now I can't help but wonder, what were you talking about?

[She holds up the book. It's one of those little ones people would use to keep track of their affairs.]
Novembers have been really unlucky for me for a long time. When I got old enough I made it a thing to keep track of bad moments in here though, and then go out drinking on the 30th and do a shot for all of them. Like a way of going "glad that's all over with" and all...
Just seems selfish and short-sighted now though.

She eyes the prosthetic, and nods in approval at it's good design.

Like you said, everyone has burdens and times things take a turn for the worse. But I don't need to arbitrarily try to keep stock of everything bad that happens to me in one month, even down to-

Newtypes and X-Rounders, plus other stuff without as clean an explanation. Pretty sure I'm not one of them though.
... Not like a certain someone would take me at my word on that though, most likely.

Well then!
[Ren claps their hands.]
Let's reverse it, shall we? For the next month, please try to keep track of good things that happened to you, not bad ones. I am sure you will find there is quite a lot of those, too.

[Flipping over to the end of her list-]
It'll be a fresh start come this November.
[And with a decidisve tear she rips the former leaflets out and balls them up.]
And I won't let bad turns of luck, past or present, get me down this time.

[A cheesy thumbs up.]
Oh, by the way. I don't think we met before, did we? My name is Ren Ubuntu.

[Right, that name sounds familiar. One of the more unusual people here, but even without reading that primer it'd be obvious on account of Ren being all red-skinned, horned, and androgynous.]
Nice to finally meet you Ren. I'm Ana.

I'm not an alocholic. It's just for a long time, I've always seemed to have ridiculously bad luck in everything come November, including the loss of my right hand.
I just made it a tradition to do shots at the end of the month as a response, though as a matter of fact I was already thinking about quitting.

I was just meaning that it might seem weird that someone would still have secrets they didn't want to tell or things they want to see finished, but was prepared to die. But I could understand someone doing that, since I've met and worked with people like that.

I would advise trying to push it from your mind and change your expectations. The idea of a self-fulfilling prophecy is a surprisingly potent psychological phenomenon and sabotaging yourself is foolish in this position.
I do not believe I've heard the full story of the loss of your hand though and the qualities of your prosthetic replacement.
