[As deaths, messed-up terrorists, close calls and incredibly embarrassing pilot suits piled up over the last few weeks Kei have been visibly appearing more and more stressed when not needed to seem strong to comfort those more personally affected. At a quiet moment somewhere without a huge crowd, she let out a comment on it after a long, awkward pause.]

This is what it means to be a soldier, isn't it? At least when a major war is going on.

I'm not sure that's what I want. It'd mean abandoning everyone and it's all I know anyway. Not sure the military would let me leave anyway. I just wish I'd been given a choice on all this.

Well... you could always talk to Yancy. You know, of the Beckett brothers? He was pretty aghast when I told him all about how we got signed on.

Though... I wonder what the talk was like. When they came to pick us up from our foster families.

It must have been quite awkward...Even if our foster families knew it was coming. Really, I wonder how they came up with this plan for preparing us for battle.

Well, to be fair, they originally weren't growing us to fight - just to explore. But then it turned out we were under attack by more than just the occasional giant monster, and they needed someone who could be raised for the job.

Although, if it hadn't been for the losing streak prior to our deployment, I bet we wouldn't have been deployed at all, until we were actually old enough to vote.

They could still have chosen not to wipe our memories or to raise us in a way that would cause the kind of loss the wipe was meant to avoid.

True... but, they did, and we're stuck with it for now. Maybe you could become an advocate for GM human rights, if you're so concerned? Or perhaps do some digging and find out who your foster folks were? I mean, the records have gotta exist somewhere...

Maybe...We'll see. But we still have a war to fight. We're a team, I'm not just going to leave you guys.

No kidding. There's the Beckett brothers, that Sousuke guy, the Tri-Stars or whatever - not to mention all the dudes in argos flight with their outfits.

Mind, those are even better on the ladies.
