Training Day

[Due to an increasing number of mixed operations (and in part to satisfy general pilot curiosity) the TSF detachment has scheduled a training event for other UG personnel to familiarize themselves with TSF piloting at their own pace. Unable to provide the full simulator support onsite at a UG location the event is scheduled to take place at the Yokohama training base.

The day is split between use of the simulators in the morning to instill the basics and more advanced maneuvers in the Fubuki training TSFs using a modified dual seat cockpit allowing members of the Argos flight to take control in case of emergency.]

[2] - Semi-locked to Raquel

[Tarisa is suited up in her TSF suit minus the HUD interface waiting for Raquel to meet for the arranged spar the two had decided upon after discussing her last run in with the Shura. Looking up as the door opens the look of excitement and anticipation on her face is obvious.]

Certainly took long enough for our schedules to match up for this, wouldn't you agree?

[The usual suspect for shenanigans is here. Izuru also dragged his whole team along - or rather parts of it that did not protest too violently.]

[Sighing inwardly Yuuya greets team rabbits as they approach, taking particular focus on Izuru.]

Alright, looks like you've suited up well enough with the Lieutenants and I'm assuming they gave you the basic safety briefing about not trying anything too crazy before you get used to piloting. It's going to be pretty different from your regular units but go ahead and step up. We'll start you on the basic movement course but don't try anything fancy with the boosters until you've had a chance to see how the auto-balancer reacts to landings.

Do you people really pilot in those suits all the time? It feels... distracting.

They can't be all that different, can they? And besides, it's just a sim!

I can appreciate your confidence and if you're really that sure we'll bump you up to the C level course and see how you do there. Of course we'll have to adjust this [Stella tightens the HUD assembly and neck bracer] so that we don't accidentally break anything.

[Stella's smile seems sincere enough but something about the way she spoke seemed to be ever so slightly off-putting. As the simulated cockpit closes you feel the the contact points on your suit bolt into the seat and the HUD flashes across your eyes with standard boot messages and a large LEVEL C across it. Shortly thereafter the scene resolves into an urban setting and your radar indicates approximately two dozen targets moving in various patterns.]

Oh, confident are we? I'll warn you that TSFs are rougher than you'd think but if you're ready let's get you in the simulator and do the basic motion test.

Ow ow ow! This robot is too damn sensitive, man! I only pushed the throttle a bit!

It's meant to be have a similar maximum combat speed to a Valkyrie in fighter mode and the ability to stop and turn like a Batteloid mode veritech. It can't reach the same maximum cruising speed but there is a reason that they bolt us into the cockpit.

Try to moderate your boots and accelerated from a run into a boost to begin with, once you're used to that you can start getting a bit fancier with the moves.

Raquel had had a heck of a time getting suited up into her own TSF flight suit. She had honestly asked if it needed to be like moulded around her, or some such. That had got a few laughs but things had been going on pretty well all things consider. She strutted along clearly enjoying the flight suit on some level but given how she dressed normally? It wasn't too much of a shock really.

She tilted her head a bot as she spots her friend and grins wildly at her.

"So this has been quite a training day hasn't it? I was still expecting to be poured into a mould to get me to fit into. Still you were not kidding about what they can do. I got to admit I'm intending to try and get actually certified the Amazon is an amazing machine but I'd be foolish not to be able to use something else if it was unable to function, right?"

She does a dew stretches as she takes a moment to consider a new comment.

"I was thinking I'd have to start punching time it self!"

She sounds like she might be serious about attempting to do that one too. She finishes up her stretches and looks back one last time.

"I'm ready if you are. Note I won't be exploding anything..."

She lowers her body into a ready stance looking Tarisa over as she makes the bring it on gesture with her right hand.

Well let's just say that things happened and as things usually go when Izuru and Leos are both involved there was definite amusement.

[Tarisa readies herself in her own stance with her closed right hand out furthest from her body and her left behind it open but curled to strike or grab as needed.]

Well then I guess I'll start the dance.

[Tarisa moves in quickly with a frontal charge to attempt to draw a response from the taller Brazilian's longer reach but stopping short just before she would enter the reach to step to the left and try to get closer to strike at Raquel's right side.]

Raquel seems eager for this fight for some time as she makes her self ready she watches Tarisa as she moves. She shifts rapidly moving to block the strike for her side. She's not going full out, she wants to get a feel for how well her friend fights.

The counter attack comes swiftly in the form of two rapid punches followed by a kick, she's trying to see how fast Tarisa can react but so far? The TSFs response times have been very good. This was going to be a fun spar.

[Tarisa ducks below the punches and throws up her arms to catch the kick against her bicep and forearm while bracing with her other arm. Following up she throws her own pair of punches and attempts a foot sweep to knock Raquel off balance.]

Raquel finds that Tarisa is doing a decent job of keeping against her as he blocks the attack. The twin punches, do connected, she blocks one but one gets through. Raquel makes a grunt as she's hit, but she's recovering quickly and just keeps from losing her balance.

"Not bad."

Raquel has taken some hi9ts but she's not out of it, also she finds the TSF suit's worked pretty well to help lessen the force of the hit. This is where Raquel where she launches a light ki charged punch to just see how Tarisa takes it.

You know I always did wonder how you "saw" with your eyes closed. I'd assumed you were just squinting to have a small gap to see through and had gotten used to the narrowed field of view. Is there some kind of tie in system you use or have you tried just opening your eyes if my assumption was correct?

Um...No, I just keep them closed all the time...It doesn't really make a difference in how well I see, soooo if you could just get the stupid computer to shoot those lasers at my face, that'd be great!

I guess we can try to do the override on the system and manually adjust it to see if we can get it right. I'm still confused by the whole seeing with your eyes closed thing. I doubt I'd get an explanation or even particularly care if it came up, must really suck for bright lights and flash bangs though since closing your eyes doesn't help.

[Yuuya pushes a button on the side of the HUD and pulls up a terminal to begin to adjust the output.]

[Seta is not taking part in the exercise, nor is she wearing one of the Fortified Suits (not that she has much to show to begin with).

She is, however, closely observing the equipment and some of the others while they train.]

I have heard that piloting is a complex task that requires a good amount of technical skill, but I never expected anything like this...

TSFs are a bit more difficult on the technical skills department, the advantage they offer is a full range of movement in both the air and ground and a greater degree of mobility. A Gespenst can't match a TSF's maneuverability with an equally skilled pilot and is limited from taking flight with standard equipment.

Fighting the BETA with something this complex is something worthy of praise.

I think fighting the Beta in any shape or form is worthy of praise. They're not as big a threat as some entities but the psychological impact they represent definitely makes the battles more difficult.
