1 - Midday, Alhambra, training field.
[Out in the field, the sound of rapidfired shots is heard. A certain battle suit is utterly demolishing the training programs, swirling around with controlled movements and putting exactly one bullet into each training dummy. When the beep that signals the end of session sounds, it lands in the center, and the gun on its arm lets go of heat with a satisfying ca-click sound.
After months of being reduced to a cripple, Kagura is back. And while it's true she needs to give this replacement armor some exhaustive testing... from the showyness of that last round it's pretty clear she's most definitely enjoying this fact.
If you want to talk to her or congratulate her for being back in action, this is probably the best moment!]
2 - Deep night/small hours of the morning, outside Alhambra
[If you happen to be outside very late at night, however, you might notice the same battle suit outside, immobile under the moon, looking to have been there for a while. A rock is inside its hand.]
THAT'S 2-2.
NEXT TIME.
[And with that the robotic hand moves forward and squeezes, crushing the rock into gravel. That gesture definitely seemed a challenge, but there's nobody (and, honestly, nothing, because Alhambra is the in the middle of nowhere) around TO challenge. She doesn't seem to have noticed you yet, though...]

[The fact she actually counted them probably says enough about how well Kagura was taking being grounded, though]

THANK YOU, RANGER KAIDANOVSKY. I EXPECT IT WILL NOT BE NECESSARY, BUT I'LL KEEP IT IN MIND.

[The sound of footsteps against soil can be heard. Setsuko's night time walk just turned into something more.]
Major...

Then... why do I feel this way? It's like if a lot of things have happened. Very bad things.

IF YOU FEEL UNSATISFIED, OHARA, THAT SIMPLY MEANS YOU HAVE SOME FIRE LEFT IN THAT HEAD OF YOURS.

I wonder... what would I say to everyone involved now, if I could. What would I say to Ren.

AND NOW I'M LEFT TO WONDER IF I COULD HAVE PULLED THAT OFF AND KICKED DESTINY IN THE DICK A THIRD TIME IF UBUNTU HADN'T JUMPED INTO THE CHANCE TO MARTYR HERSELF.
TYPICAL UBUNTU. SINGLE TIME I FUCKING WANT TO KEEP HER ALIVE AND SHE JUMPS ON A GRENADE.

I... don't like it either. I've been too many times on a receiving end of a sacrifice to like them.
And each time, I wondered that too. If there was something, anything, I could've done differently to prevent it.

[To the next bit, Kagura stays silent for a few moments]
THERE OFTEN IS, IN HINDSIGHT. BUT RARELY ONES YOU COULD HAVE SEEN COMING. SO THERE'S OFTEN LITTLE TO DO BUT THEORIZE. TRY TO NOT DWELL ON IT TOO MUCH.

I see, I'll try not to... same to you, Major.

Ah...hey. Robot person...
[She puts a hand on Kagura's shoulder, taking a moment to catch her breath.]
Do you have...any water?

Either way, Kagura silently and very pointedly takes off the hand laying on her with two mechanical fingers, clearly making a point and with more than a bit of warning.
The robot person does not like you touching her, Jen.]

[She sits down, resting with her back against the giant robot suit's leg. Her sweaty, sweaty back.]

IF YOU HAVE ANY ATTACHMENT TO YOUR BONES, DO NOT TOUCH ME AGAIN.
From:
Not gonna lie, she totally deserved that
[Jen bounces on those rocks, each with an accompanying "ow" "shit" or "fuck". Then she snaps back up to standing, blood dripping down her forehead.]
Hey, what gives?! Are you just standing around waiting to kick people, like some sort of demented soccer robot?!

Sorry for assuming you weren't a total asshole! I won't make that mistake again.

I WON'T BORE YOU WITH PHILOSOPHY, GENERAL. IF EITHER OF US WAS THE TYPE TO BELIEVE IN SOMETHING LIKE THAT, YOU COULD CALL WHAT I'M OPPOSING "DESTINY".
I SIMPLY CALL IT THE WAY THINGS ARE CREATED. DETERMINISM. THE COLONEL IS MORE OF A POET THAN I AM AND LIKES TO SAY I'M FIGHTING THE UNIVERSE. SMART AS SHE IS, COLONEL SUZU LIKES THAT MOVIE-SOUNDING CRAP.

I do not believe in destiny. Events happen as the consequences of other events, and actions undertaken by living beings. If you fail to change something, it could be due to a multitude of factors: opposing forces, mistakes, simply not having the power to influence the outcome, or something else. But "it was destined to happen that way" is not among these factors.

IT'S AN EASY THOUGHT TRAP TO FALL INTO, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU WERE EXPLICITLY CREATED BY AN INTELLIGENT CREATURE TOWARDS A PURPOSE. UBUNTU OFTEN DID.
WHAT I THINK IS FUCK THAT NOISE.

What I wonder about more is whether our actions managed to change the course of events enough not to lead towards the future Ren came from. Time travel is a complex thing.
