Kaname Chidori, age 16, has been living on her own ever since her father and younger sister moved back to New York sixteen months ago. Part of her figured she'd live alone in her apartment until she got married or something. Never in her wildest dreams did she ever imagine that she'd be forced to live on a military base.
Say goodbye to sleepovers with Kyoko. This whole moving business was something that she didn't even want to begin to explain to her best friend. She didn't bother to even try and explain it to her father. Instead, she just told him that there were problems with packages being stolen at her apartment complex and provided him with a PO Box to send letters to instead.
It was probably better if he and her young sister, Ayame didn't know what was going on, anyway. If they knew she was in sort of danger, they'd only worry. Her dad would probably move back to the US, and moving to this base was bad enough. She was still trying to come to terms with all of this, herself.
Goodbye, perfectly normal high school life.
Kaname shifts the box in her hands. Most of her things she had shipped off; they should already be in her room. But this box is filled with things that are special to her. Old family photographs -- especially ones of her mom. A few photo albums. Her childhood blanket. The Bonta-kun plush toy she's had ever since she was a baby. The box isn't exactly heavy, perse, but it's certainly large and unwieldy. That's part of the reason why she's having such a rough time carrying it.
Still, she's been walking around this base for ten minutes now, and she's still completely lost. And unfortunately for Kaname, her usual shadow, Sousuke Sagara, wasn't around. Thankfully, though, there's a figure up ahead.
"Hey!" Kaname calls out, as she quickens her pace. "Do you know where the dorms are?"

"Hey!" Kaname calls out, as she quickens her pace. "Do you know where the dorms are?"

[The alien gestures with her staff and starts to lead the way.]
I presume you have never encountered a Gebian before.

Kaname was just about to ask what the other woman did here when Hetepheres opened her mouth to speak again.
"Gebian? No, can't say that I have."

My people travelled to Earth once, thousands of years ago, and then left, bringing information about your planet and people with them. But these days, we return, albeit our goals are not united; I am general Hetepheres, the ambassador of the Pro-Earthling Party. The PEP believes in mutual understanding and cooperation between our races.

Why did her life have to become so bizarre all at once? Why her?
Kaname's shoulder slump visibly, though it's more at her own thoughts than anything Hetepheres has said.
"Then I guess that makes you one of the goods guys, huh?" Pro-Earthling Party had to mean that there was some sort of Anti-Earthling Party, right? Well, they probably didn't call themselves that, but...
"I'm Kaname Chidori." She'd extend a hand for Hetepheres to shake, but her hands are kinda full right now.
"What are you doing here, though?" she asks, head tilted slightly to one side. "Shouldn't you be rubbing shoulders with the ESUN or something?"

The AEP will make their move soon, and invade Earth. When they do that, I want to be there, to help Earthlings push them back.

Life wasn't fair, was it? She was better off not knowing that any of this was happening!
And for what has to be the eleventh time since she arrived on the base here, Kaname visibly deflates.
"So you're a robot pilot too, huh?" That's the only conclusion she can draw from this conversation.

I am a pilot, yes. My mech, the Scaraber, is one of the most powerful units Geb has created. Its might will be used to defend Earth, just like it defended Geb before.

"So, that's just how it is," she says, more to herself than anyone else. Hopefully, in a couple of months they'd get this whole thing sorted out and she could return home. If anything was becoming more evident by the minute, it was that she didn't belong here.

They want to conquer Earth, take its resources for themselves, and enslave the populace. Some of the higher members are most likely already thinking about building some pyramids.

The only good thing about all this is that there at least seems to be some of them out there with good sense! The good sense to know that attack against humans would ultimately end in failure! Every alien action film Kaname Chidori watched ultimately ended in the complete and utter annihilation of alien forces. And sure, maybe that's all fictional, but she's not about to start crying and give up hope just because some aliens plan on enslaving the human population, either.
And besides, if there was anything that she had gleaned from watching the battle the other day, it was that the good guys weren't exactly without their strengths, either.
Kaname balances the box in her hand long enough to scratch her head with frustration.
"What made you decide to join our side, anyway?"

And finally, I find you Earthlings pretty interesting. We owe a lot of our cultural heritage to you, after all.
From:

"What's all this about cultural heritage and stuff? How exactly did you get your culture from us?"
Kaname is apparently not up-to-date on the whole Gebian history sort of thing; it wasn't exactly something they covered in history class.
From:

The explorers documented this culture well, and brought their findings back home. On our planet, it quickly became the dominant - and long-lasting - cultural trend, up to this day.

"What do you guys think about modern culture?" she asks, curious. "Do you guys find any value in that?"
Probably not if they were gung-ho about human annihilation. Or enslavement. Or whatever they had planned for them.

Was that even the correct word?
Kaname holds her hands out in front of her, moving quickly to clarify. "I didn't mean that all of you are the same, or anything! I just wanted to know the prevailing opinion, that's all!"
From:

[If she was bothered by the previous mistake, and/or satisfied by this explanation, it is hard to say. Heph's expressions show very little emotion.]
Perhaps the best word to describe the most common opinion is "curious".

This was her first time meeting an actual Gebian in the flesh, after all.
"How far are the rooms from here, anyway?"

...I should not show up around the city. Not yet.
