Game Night (Open/Mingle)

[Following a recent paycheck and as a way of passing time, Kei had acquired a fairly large collection of board games, but such things obviously needs other players. As such a game night is held for the pilots and support staff of Unity Group. The venue? The only place on any of the bases suitable for a large gathering possibly sticking around until late in the night - Asagi's room. Several board games are scattered across the room, taking up both table, bed and floor space, though one table is reserved for snacks. It holds a variety of different ones, centering on a large number of Kei's strange, technicolor cakes, but also featuring more ordinary ones for those without hummingbird metabolisms or who just have a sense of taste.

So what are people playing and how many friendships are ruined by brutal backstabs or lame jokes about what to give in exchange for sheep?]

Everyone's already gathering here all the time. It's the most convenient place.

It feels more homelike to have everyone together and your room has the most convenient location.

Alright then. See, now that you asked nicely, I have no problem with playing Arkham Horror. Let's shoot some tentacle monsters in the face.

And come on, Asagi! We brought the snacks, you put the room, it all works. Relax!

But it gets lonely when everybody is in their own rooms.

Anyway, let's set the game up.

What are the rules anyway? Do we start from a single spot? Roleplay?

I think we start from different places...The characters have starting points listed, after all. And I'll let Asagi explain the rules, he knows the game.

Which character to play, I wonder...

[Izuru looks at the list, eyeing the heroic investigators and policemen over mad scientists and cultists.]

Each character has different stats and goals, but you can easily win or lose no matter who you play. So pick the one you like the most, or at random.

I'll be this guy.

[Asagi chooses the investigator with the strongest guts and resolve. Surely no wish fulfillment is going on here.]

I'll play this main character looking guy. Look at his heroic build! He is...

[Izuru reads the small character card.]

A magic-using hobo with a living book familiar?

Then I'll be...Her.

[Kei picked a card as well, choosing a woman who was somewhat of a drifter, doing whatever she wanted. Her stats were mostly focused on movement and magic.]

[brought_it_back]

[Eva picks a card more or less at random from the stack of characters.]

'The church sister'...It says she is a henshin hero, whatever that means...

[She flips the card over a few times.]

...Her 'resist temptation' stat is zero. Is that bad? All the other ones have higher numbers...

[booty_chaser]

[Ashe picks one character at random from the pile and reads the fluff]

Hmmmm... young girl descendant of witches? Yeah, I can do this one. Anyone have a pointy hat?

Do we work together or against each other here?

I don't want to fight a little witch...

[booty_chaser]

Afraid I'll kick your hobo butt, muscle boy?

He just thinks it'd be mean.

But we're working together, I think.

[herodrawing]

I'm not going to lose! I won't go easy on you just because it's a game.

[majestic_keiki]

We're still playing as a team.

[booty_chaser]

Well of course! If you did anything less, Izuru, I'd throw you out of the room. [Ashe grins. She's joking, but only HALF joking here, Izuru. Going easy on a fellow hero would just be disrespectful, after all]

But don't worry, I'll have to kick your behind another day. So, how does this start, Asagi?

Put your character on your starting area. Then, when it's your turn, you can do one of the actions described on your character card, search this area, or move to another one. Then you do the thing the area tells you to do - usually draw a card and then see what it does. It could be an item, a monster, an event, or anything.

Someone move first.

Okay, I'll go here.

[Kei moved her character to a rather creepy looking haunted forest and drew a card to see what it said.]

...I'm getting attacked by what looks like a piece of abstract art.

Don't let it defeat you, Kei! You can do it!

Right, I just need to roll these dice and then...

[Kei took some dice, rolled and looked at the results.]

I think I need to look up in the rules.
