Desta tried to shoot one of the mecha where the hostages were trapped because it was easier. Easier than trying to rescue them.

Instantly going for the easiest resolution is not a hard choice.

I don't know does any of them have any formal training. But I've seen them fight, and they're good. Not just Desta, all three. That skill has to come from somewhere...

Which just makes their lack of discipline worse, they're far more capable of convincing themselves it works. And can cause far worse trouble.
