1. [On a fine, clear day outside, music can be heard drifting through the air. The sound of a cello can be heard gently drifting through the air. If someone bothers to track it down, they'd find a beautiful, elegant-looking woman practicing on the instrument, while her maid stands nearby.]
Oh, good morning. Can I help you with something?
2. [Kanae's other main way to spend time early on? Shooting. Not at a firing range, either, but outside. She's shooting skeet, and any wildlife that happen to wander into her sight.]
You know Sayo, I don't think I'll ever get entirely used to guns...The noise, the smoke, that odd tingle that runs up your spine as the bullet slams into your target...
[BAM, down goes a bluebird.]

Do you work here? Or are you a visitor?

Re: 1
I get the feeling that you're not just a wandering musician.

[She does a slight flourish with her bow.]
I'm the GHQ contribution to the Unity Group's mission.

I didn't think that the GHQ would be sending anyone to the Unity Group.

And, truth be told, I suspect they wanted me off their hands.
From:

Personally I see no reason for why they would have wanted to do that.

...
...I'm just unloved...

[On the other hand, even she recognizes someone flipping the bird to basic safety precautions and just being a jerk to wildlife.]
[On a hypothetical third hand that might be added to a Gespenst for a surprise hold-out weapon, she should send a memo to Dr. Radom about that, she doesn't want to get shot by a trigger-happy weirdo friendly. If she's going to die stupidly, she's going to do it in combat. So, she makes sure she's wearing her nice, bright red flightsuit and has cover to dive behind first.]
HEY! What do you think you're doing?
From:
To be fair she is shooting out into like, a cornfield
From:
Well then kill all the bluejays you want, just lay off the mockingbirds
No, you're just shooting at random crap. Trigger discipline also means not picking off whatever random bird pops up.

[Crack! Another one goes down.]
Indeed. The mistress is quite deliberate in her wanton devastation of animal life.
From:

...
That was a good shot, though.
From:

That was nothing. Why, I could do it with my eyes closed!
...If you want, I can show you a more difficult trick.
From:

[Ahem.]
I mean yeah, sure. Just keep that thing pointed away from anyone with two legs and no wings.

[She takes five targets, and throws them up into the air. A shot's fired, but Kanae's clearly pointing her gun off to the side, far away from the skeet. And yet...all the targets break apart in mid-air, anyways.]
From:

I believe you missed the center of the last target by a few centimeters.
Awww, I was hoping to get all bullseyes...

... Directions back to the base, please. Either that or an umbrella if your maid has one.

[Looking up at the sky and then around to make sure it was just the three of them-]
Try not to be alarmed by what's about to happen.
[On such a bright day, plenty of shadows are being cast. But one -Mizuki's- seems to warp and bulge freakishly before suddenly a gigantic black hand reached out of it, one large enough to bend up and over her form to shield her from that insufferable light. And finally it's stopped feeling like her skin's being continuously peeled off.]

...You get sunburnt that easily, huh?
Young lady, perhaps you should purchase a hat?
From:
no subject
Not exactly. You know when you experience something that makes you physically ill? It's like that... except it's sunlight that does this to me.
[A weary sigh as she sits down in her self-made shade. She can still feel the sunlight coming down on the DuskBird's arm, but fortunately the machine's made of sterner stuff than the rest of her.]
Even moonlight has an effect on me, but not nearly to the same extent as on a day like this.

Plus, when push comes to shove there's always the DuskBird.
[She knocks her fist once against the gigantic limb.]

"Oh! I wasn't expecting to hear music like that, I just got curious."

That's quite a steep price to pay for fleeting happiness, don't you think?
