[1 - Closed to Kei]
"We never actually really got out here all that often when I still lived in New York."
It's a bright and sunny day in New York City -- and unfortunately, the day is excruciatingly hot. The city's tall skyscrapers prevent any sort of breeze from penetrating the streets of the world's largest cities. Fortunately, Kaname is prepared. She wears a comfortable tank-top and a pair of white jean shorts. Her long, blue locks are pulled up into a high ponytail at the back of her head, lifting her heavy and hot hair off her shoulders and neck.
Walking alongside her is a girl with long, blonde hair. One of the many people who made Kaname's acquaintance after all the kidnapping craziness earlier this year.
"I mean, you'd think with us being so close to the city that we'd be here all the time, but the only time we ever went into the city proper was when someone was visiting."
Kaname lets out a long sigh, her shoulders sinking with the effort. "It's just too much sometimes, you know?"
Kaname glances over at Kei -- the blonde accompanying her to the city, specifically for a Broadway show the two of them wanted very much to see. "What about you?" she asks. "Do you get out here all that much?"
There were some benefits to being military, after all -- and those transporters were definitely one of them.
[2 - Open to All]
Kaname and Kei are sitting on a park bench in Central Park. Kaname is animatedly discussing the broadway show the two girls saw the day before -- in between munching on a hot dog acquired from one of the city's many hot dog stands.
Dare you approach?

I don't. They keep sending us on missions and when we're not, they love using us to boost morale. This is the first time I've gotten actual leave since joining Unity Group.

Kaname quirks an eyebrow at that.
"What kind of love?"

...well, there wasn't really any guy out there that was a good fit for Kaname. Most guys could tolerate her as a friend, but when it came down to it, Kaname Chidori was just not good girlfriend material.
"Don't mind me," Kaname says with an embarrassed waggle of the hand. "My mistake."
There's a beat there, a brief pause where Kaname mentally deliberates weighing the pros and cons of continuing with this line of questioning. She presses her lips together, then opens them again.
"Do you mind if I ask you an embarrassing question?"
And if Kei gives her okay, Kaname continues:
"Is there anyone you like?"

"Are you sure? I mean, it's okay if you really don't, but..."
Kaname's voice trails off disbelievingly.

A beat.
"There's been plenty of guys who have wanted to go on a date with me only for me to find out they're a real creep. And if they're actually decent, most of the time they just end up intimidated."
Kaname could be pretty aggressive at times.
"I was just wondering if you knew about all that. It'd just be nice to get advice from someone who doesn't attend Jindai High School for once."

And we weren't exactly the most popular team either...And Ataru and Tamaki hitting on everybody who got near them drove anybody who might have been interested in one of us off.

Kaname lets out another long sigh, though.
"If I knew any respectable guys, I'd try setting you two up on a date or something." Unlike Kyoko, Kaname actually didn't set up blind dates indiscriminately. "The guys on the base seem nice enough, but the whole 'giant robot' thing is kind of a massive turnoff for me. Some of the guys..."
A beat.
"I don't know."

But, yeah, I guess that popularity and actually getting a boyfriend aren't the same thing.

Well, that could explain Kei's inexperience, at any rate.
"How long have you been doing the whole piloting thing, then?"

Ken considers his situation from behind a nearby tree, for the most part concealed. He'd been hoping for a chance to talk to Kaname away from others, such as at school or at the base...
But even here she was with someone... which actually made more sense than going to New York alone, especially given the security risks...
But what to do...?]
