One fine day, someone posts a general video message on the Unity Group network.
"Hello! This is Ranger Yancy Beckett, on loan with his brother from the Pan Pacific Defense Corps."
He smiles. "I've been impressed by everyone I've met here, and I'm looking forward to defending the Earth with you all!"
His smile fades. "That being said, there's something that I've been meaning to ask folks, something that's been bugging me for a bit." He fidgets, then blurts out:
"Why are there so many kids here?"

[Ataru's grin is a combination of sass and cockiness.]
Just messing with ya. There's still a pretty decent number of grown ups around, its just... you've got a few exceptions here or there, and then the entire MJP project involved genetically engineering us for the job.

He rests his chin on his hand. "But what does that mean, exactly? How did this affect your life and upbringing and whatnot?"

Shrug.]
I dunno. I mean, I can't remember most of it. Memory was wiped after fifteen so I wouldn't have any existing regrets or ties to society after the foster family had done its job and raised me. But hey, guess I had to get my exquisite taste from somewhere, right?

Yancy holds up a hand.
"Memories Wiped?"

[Ataru's laugh is that 'well this is awkward' kind.]
Flit was similarly thrown off. But yeah, our memories were wiped at age 15 or something like that. Everybody in the Project got that.

"Why?" He finally asks.

[Ataru shakes his head, gesturing for the older man to lower his fist.]
Don't worry about it. Its what we were born for.

He starts pacing back and forth, agitated as can be. "You expect me to believe they'd rip away everything and everyone you'd care about defending...so you could be better at defending them? Where's the logic in that?"

Not everybody gets to be a rock star.

He rubs his cheeks. "I'm sorry. I guess I must seem like quite a downer..."

[A very, very wide smile draws on Ataru's face.]
Once we beat the Wulgaru and I get to retire, I'm gonna go into weapons design. And I'm gonna be dating gorgeous women every where I go!
Or! Or!
[There is an exceptional passion in Ataru's eyes - even he might not know what he's about to say.]
Instead of retiring, I'll go to the top of GDF command, and then, not just for the MJP project, and not just for officers, but all women of our brave troops...
On that day, they will be required to wear...
Tiny Miniskirts!

Alright! Dream for the future!
[Ataru holds up his hand for a fistbump.]

"Alright." Yancy says, nodding. "All I'll say is this, Ataru: if you stumble across anything that makes the MJP look sinister, and you need to go rogue...talk to me, okay? I'll try and help out."
