*After the fight with Asakim and announcement by Chimera, you can see Walt nursing some drink at the shadowy part of the base cafetaria at night. You think he meant to look broody and thoughtful, but since he usually already looks pretty gloomy by default, now he just looks constipated.*
So someone else turned out to be a traitor.
*He says if you sit anywhere near him.*
Recently there are quite so many people changing sides or turning out not actually be angelic and all that jazz so we shouldn't actually be surprised anymore if anyone does that, really.
But here's the thing.
I'm never surprised at these. Because from the beginning, I consider everyone as potential ship jumper.
That Haberdashered Merchant Girl for example?
*He nods at Grace*
For me it's not a question of if, it's a question of when. The reason is obvious. We just have to wait until someone offer her enough money, or power, or fame, and she'll change side faster than you can say I-told-you-so.
*He nurses his drink again, before continuing.*
That pilot cat with the goggles, for another example. What's tying him up here anyway? Absolutely nothing. The time he decide us as a more challenging target to hunt than a convenient food source, he'll set his crosshair on us, I guarantee it.
*He gloomily stir the ice cubes on his shot glass, before continuing again.*
And that new giant tank. The kids are fine, but an amnesiac mysterious giant tank? I'd rather say "advance scout of powerful alien invaders who accidentally lost his memory." Maybe it'll regain his memory and turn back into invader mode, maybe not. But we're basically waiting for the Interplanetary Conqueror that made it to caught its beacon that will lead them here.
*He then looks at you.*
So who do you think will turn traitor next? And why do you think they would do that?
(OOC: As you can see, this isn't an entirely serious thread, though it's still IC, that's why I'm posting it here instead of 4koma. Just mentioning the tone so there won't be any misunderstanding. Also I'm just posting people I play as example, simply because so anyone other character can reply in this thread, feel free to talk about other player's character."

What does that tell you about putting too much faith in pre-prepared kill switches?

Ohh? How you'd describe yourself, then? What'd make you snap and turn coat?
From:
no subject
So what'd make me turn coat? Slightly better pay and less chance to die, mostly.
But there's just not much chance for those. I mean, why would any evil organization want to employee-takeover me in particular?

Besides, even if they fulfill one part of the cost, that is slightly better pay, it's unlikely they'd pay the second part, that is less chance to die. Not like my survival chance is high in the UG, but for the record, here's a hint.
Soldiers who work out of UG, and especially those who work against them, have statistically significantly way less survival chance.

You really have it all figured out, don't you.
Doesn't this make you perfectly treason-free, though? It means switching sides to the enemies, and you just said all your enemies get wrecked.

What do you think would make me betray the rest? You know I was your enemy, I'm sure.
From:

Also power. If by that turning traitor give you unlimited power, or at least stronger power, you might also be tempted.
So basically, my advice is, keep to yourself, never make any friends, and train all the time to make yourself stronger so you won't be tempted by any shortcut to power.

After what happened with that Jen girl, I'm on all kinds of edge for crap like that.

'specially from other people trying to shift attention away from themselves.

Not money, that's for sure. A hired gun gotta stick to the contract. That's how you make your reputation.

And don't you know? Insulting one's commander behind their back is practically an official military time passer.

Maybe someone else here might decide they want to join someone else... But we've had a lot of people decide they wanted to join us instead!
Walt-san, of everyone we've had to fight against, who do you think'd be the next to join us? I'm hoping the reporter-mummy does eventually!
From:

I assume SSR people doesn't count. So in that line of thought...
Maybe Asakim?
From:

... Maybe you're right! He's always talking about wanting to be "free" and he's helped us out before when there's been no real reason too.

If he does change sides, I hope he has a really good excuse for everything.
