[Upon hearing the news of how the mission went, Sielje ran off to somewhere. She can be found in a quiet corner of Alhambra's outside areas. She had a small training area organised, with dummies for stabbing and such. All of which now show signs of frustration, damage done to them with haphazard strikes.]

Was so little required for you to turn traitor, Jen Douglas?

[Her head drops.]

"I dunno..." Dido says. "My thoughts are all jumbled up about this, but..."

She taps her shoulder, then speaks again. "Every time one of the Unity Group has betrayed us, or gone rogue, or even supervillain, it's always come as a shock. But then after I think about it, I realize their betrayal make sense based on who they are."

Dido paces back and forth. "Sarah was power-hungry and yearned for immortality. Loni couldn't stand not being a hero, while Ilinka would hurt anyone to gain his approval. Lamia was a double agents from the start. Leos was mad with despair."

She stops mid-pace. "But why would Jen betray us? I can't think of any motivation that makes sense..."

Did she not say she hated how we treated her?

[Sielje frowns suddenly.]

I can think of reasons...

"C'mon!" Dido protests. "We weren't that bad!"

She thinks back to her earlier disagreement with Jen on the rooftop. "I think we weren't that bad...nevermind! The point is that Jen's a courier, a practical person. She wants a prosperous life with as little risk as is practical."

Dido spreads her hands wide. "So why would she publicly defect to a snake-themed terrorist group staffed by a group of ultraviolent, unstable psychotics? Moral concerns aside, that's a hella lot of risk, for little reward!"

I do not know. Ways of Earth are still strange to me... was it not normal? Others joined the same organisation for some reason.

But I do not know. I only know that...

Bad decisions can be made...

"I guess," Dido mutters.

She chuckles hopelessly. "Strange, isn't it? We've had allies betray us time and again. You'd think I'd get used to it...but now I'm hoping more than ever that Jen's not doing what she seems..."

She meets Sieljie's eyes. "Is that naive, you think?"

Then I proved myself a naive fool, time and time again.

"Hey," Dido says gently, patting Sieljie's armor pauldron. "There's no shame in being a naive fool! Lots of philosophers think being a naive fool's splendid!"

She snorts. "It's better than being a cynical villain or amoral money-grubber, right?"

It is even better to be neither.

Those philosophers you speak of are strange people indeed...
