[Kei is sitting in one of the common rooms at the Sakihama base with a cup of tea and and an empty plate with a dirty fork and some crumbs and custard in front of her. Also on the table is a large collection brightly colored promotional pamphlets and magazines from universities across the planet. She's thumping through some of them, comparing the information presented within.]

But if I do pick Germany, I need a degree from an official high school to get in...

[Later the same day, Kei has gathered her team in their usual meeting spot - Asagi's room.]

So I was thinking. Now that the Wulgaru have been defeated and enough times without any sightings has passed that they're probably genuinely gone, we deserve some leave. We haven't really had any since we were ordered to the beach almost a year ago.

Any specific part of Japan? Just "Japan" is very general. Also not very foreign.

Japan is small enough that we can take the train to travel around. And we don't need to worry about the language or learning local customs. It has a lot of things to see too.

[No comments about possibly returning to base, though.]

Why not make it a full on backpacking holiday? Start at one end of the country, travel to the other, see a different place every day.

We have to see Kobe though! There's all sorts of stuff to see there, beef to eat, hot springs to try, and then there's the giant robot statue!

I wonder how much time we have though... a full-scale backpacking holiday'd take a while...

That's kind of the point. We've only gotten a few days of leave, they owe us some more and it seems like things are less desperate anyway.

Why would it be extreme sports? Backpacking across Japan just means staying in the same city for a few days instead of the entire trip. We'll get proper hotels.

Yes. There's a whole world of medical schools to choose from, so I'm trying to get a better sense of my choices.

Anything you want to look for? A lot of these are for the entire university, not just the medical school.

...I know I could be a military instructor well, but there are still a lot of problems I would need to sort out, before going to school...

Yes. This crisis is not going to last forever. We've already beaten the Wulgaru and made peace with some of the Zentraedi. I want to figure out what to do afterwards.

I was thinking of becoming a doctor. I just need to get a high school degree or pass an entrance exam.

That's good, it'd be kinda weird if the thing I read about you wearing a nurse outfit came true...

I don't know...I need a degree for most of them, some standardized test or another for others and to pass an entry exam for the rest. I'll probably need to do more focused study for any of them, but that just makes looking into what to aim for more important.

I'm looking at medical schools, so requirements are pretty high and you wouldn't want somebody bad getting in.

[Kagura actually takes a moment to reply to that. She gives Kei a little more respect than she does the other rabbits. This includes not chiding her too much for the idealistic view of who gets into medical school first.]

I will, major. But I think I'll manage. I might just take entrance exams in Japan or China instead of trying to get into one in Europe.
