["You need self-reflection". That's what Setsuko had told him. Told him after he'd just gone overboard saying things that just... had made sense in the heat of the moment. But now...]
-Another one put in an institution...
[A much darker picture is being painted for Flit as he uses every search engine and Tikipedia knockoff to look up what all became of past X-Rounders. Talented as they were, it was becoming a recurring trend that excessive and unwarranted aggression, violent rhetoric, and in some cases certified insanity went hand-in-hand with the ability. A relic of humanity's "barbaric past", Grodek had called it.]
... Some of them even act how you'd think the Vagans would.

[Flit's in his workshop, looking down at a strange, excessively bubbly-shaped helmet; its design Vagan-ish in spirit. Not surprising, since it was a spoil of the battle at Ambat.]

"Psychomet Mu-szel"...
... A helmet meant to stimulate activity in the X-Region.
[And now begins the experimental part: hooking up cables all over the contraption and hooking it up to a terminal with a makeshift AGE Device acceptance slot on it.]
... Come on. Take as long as you need to but tell me what I want to hear...
[A helmet that could make people be like X-Rounders. Could it be possible to reverse-engineer it... literally?]
[3] (confined to one very special friend)

[Okay, so the analysis and calculations were taking a long while. Long enough for Flit to get restless and go into the city to stretch his legs. It gave him some time to stop worrying about his own problems and think about other peoples', after all. And there was one really big question on his mind as he walked along aimlessly.]
... Why, Leos. Why?

[Leos as it turns out had spotted him, he was pondering about speaking when he was mentioned... he may as well talk to Flit, at least while he can.]

[He goes for the AGE Device; it's a communicator too after all but oh right, it's not on-hand.]
... Leos, what are you doing here?!?

You have a lot to answer for!

Is it about the people I've killed? The things I've done?
From:

You let your friends try to kill Eva! You let them fight against us and just stood by!
From:

They're not my friends Flit. And lets be honest, those incompetent idiots wouldn't be able to kill anyone in the Unity Group, even on their best day no matter what they think.
I stood by because I figured that they deserved everything they got coming to them in that fight.

Or are you talking about him?
[Leos slowly shook his head.]
Flit... the world is better off if trash like that man died in the most painful way imaginable. Having Eva - his precious toy super soldier, his obedient pawn leave him of her own accord however probably broke him more than any sort of torture ever would.
Lets face it, the only people who could have and did die there were people who deserved to.

He wanted to keep his secrets, keep his power, his control. Oh he's nothing like the monsters that were made by his little project or the Vagan but he's definitely something just as loathsome. The Unity Group, ESUN, the SSR. Even if there were more people around it would have ended the same.
In the end, those monsters... every bit as bad as what we could become... they would have taken the Howitzer no matter what.

You... knew this going in?
From:

I didn't know what it was he wanted us to protect... But I definitely knew that we wouldn't be able to keep it safe.
From:

And you didn't even bother telling us?!?
[Urge to punch rising...]

Something McDowell counted on to get the Unity Group's support.
But... either way... I was always a monster. My choices. My actions... they shouldn't be surprising at all.

You're... you're not a monster! You weren't always!

I learned how much I enjoyed causing pain and suffering on people who inflicted it on others. I wanted to see them utterly wiped out and destroyed to the last.
[Does that sound familiar to you Flit?]

You're no savior or hero at all! Fighting's not supposed to just be the end, it's supposed to be the means to an end! And the end's supposed to be peace!
From:

Do you really think that people like either of us would be able to find peace at the end of the road?

... I don't fight because I want to! I fight because if I don't people will die!
From:

But do you want the Vagan to die? Do you want to completely annihilate them? Wipe the very universe clean of their lying, war mongering, murdering filth down to the last man?
Do you want anyone like them to suffer the same?
Would you keep fighting if there were more like them?

Eva, have you ever wanted to... not be a psychic?

Yes. Often.

Maybe... maybe being an X-Rounder is a bad thing. And I want to fix that.

And X-Rounders in history mostly wound up being crazy and violent to a fault!

[Not like the Pedantic Blue psychics are the pinnacle of stability either.]
...You'll just have to try harder, then.

There's all sorts of different types of Newtypes and you can't say that they all behave the same way. But with X-Rounders it almost feels like they do.

And do remember that you, yourself, are an X-Rounder.
From:

[He stops himself. This has been stressful but outbursts won't help him here.]
... That's why I'm worried, and trying to do research.
I thought before that being an X-Rounder was something good; that I could fight better and stop monsters from killing innocent people. But now I'm not so sure...

That institution's pretty good. Good food, nice caretakers.

It's just that...
... So many X-Rounders turn out to be so...
[What's the word? Monstrous? Violent?]

Anyway, I never personally be in this particular hospital, but I have quite some friends who got institutionalized there, so I got quite some second-person review. Their padded cell is pretty comfortable, I heard.
If you're worried about the cost, I think Unity Group insurance cover both physical and mental, so don't worry about that.

I don't want to just end up in an institution! I don't want to turn out like any of those people at all!
