I'm not saying their actions were justified. But they happened regardless, and for better or for worse, our current situation was built on them.

Stigma against treating antiques like this was lower when your father was young, wasn't it? That's probably why it's hard for him to change his mind on it today.

Maybe, but people can learn even after they've grown up. Antwerp's a center of the antiques trade, so maybe that's part of it too. It's surrounded him for years.
