Originally led by the Great Emperor, the Kijin came to Earth in an attempt to conquer it, just like they had done to other worlds before. At the time, humanity was very different...but wielded technology that enabled them to fight against the threat regardless.
...But there was something humanity had that made it both different and somehow similar to the Kijin themselves. That is, emotions.

Realizing this, one of the Emperor's generals, Shahyrar - the Kijin who would become known as the leader of what would be the Foundation - decided to take a stand against the Emperor. He and a number of his followers threw aside their allegiance, joined the Earth's defenders...and in the end, he slayed the Emperor himself.
Shahyrar went on to free all the other worlds conquered by the Kijin, and those who still wished to follow the Emperor's cause were sealed within the Kijin Realm.
