Those who stop by the Sakihama Base's main hanger bay may notice a new addition to the mecha menagerie, techs repairing minor damage to it's back and right arm.

You may recognize the mecha in question– from the news, by reputation, or from your model kits: the Kaiju-slaying Jaeger, Gispy Danger!

At the base of the Mark III Jaeger, while welding sparks rain down over their heads, two brothers in matching bomber jackets clink their bottles of beer together.

Yancy Beckett looks up as you approach, and fishes out another bottle from the cooler. "Hey there! We were just celebrating our fifth battle; care to join us?"

Later on, you can see Yancy hanging out in one of the lounges, chewing on his lip as he works on a Rubix cube. Care to offer some advice?

Around the same time, you might run across Raleigh in the gym, sweat staining his tank-top as he runs through a set of staff forms, using martial arts techniques from all over the place. Surprise attack him?

"Damn straight." Yancy says, nodding vigorously. "Give me miniskirts over parkas any day!"

He blinks at Yuuya's accent. "Is that an Alabama twang I hear?"

[Yuuya looks a little confused for a moment before he shrugs]

Could be, I grew up in Arizona with my mom and grandfather and he only moved there when he retired. I did a stint in Benning as well for basic before moving on to Groom Lake for the TSF school so I may have picked more of it up then I had thought.

So I'm surprised they moved you guys to Sakihama and not Alhambra, I guess the coast has something to do with it but wouldn't you be more comfortable closer to home.

[Yuuya's expression is carefully neutral but if you look closely you can see he's making a point to try to ignore the base's regular personnel.]

Yeah, probably would. But from the sounds of it the Marshall wants us where the action is. Since us Rangers are going to be working with the Unity Group, he probably wanted one of the best on board since there's more than Kaiju making a mess out there.

[Raleigh picks up on it, but it probably isn't that important... is it?]

"Besides, " Yancy says flippantly. "I've heard there's a few ironworks down here that produce mecha-sized weapons on commission!"

He nudges Raleigh. "What'd you think, little bro? Jaeger-sized Nunchucks? Jaeger-sized Shuriken? Gipsy's already go that ninja face-mask thing going, right?"

He looks up at Yuuya. "But anyways...what are you doing down here?"

[He rubs a bruise on the side of his face and an annoyed look crosses his face]

Yui had to come back to Japan to do some paperwork for part of the XJF project and she felt that after the incident in Alhambra that I shouldn't be left on a different base than her so she could stop another incident if it happened.

Not my damn fault that that Japanese bastard didn't like an honest evaluation of the shit his people have done and couldn't hold his temper. Sucker punch hurt like a son of a bitch and I still can't move my neck or arm fully without something hurting.

[Yuuya's volume unfortunately rose with the intensity of his rant and a few of the locals on the maintenance crew seem to be annoyed by his declarations.]

Yancy...cocks his head to the side and stares at Yuuya Bridges sidways.

"Ummmm...do you want some ice, man?" He nudges the cooler with his foot. "Because it sounds like you need to chill out."

[Yuuya looks surprised and then mildly embarrassed before he speaks again more calmly]

Sorry. That asshole really pushed some buttons that hit on some things I'd really rather not remember. Add in the beating we gave each other and it really turns out to be a sore spot.

[He takes a long pull from the beer bottle before continuing.]

Doesn't help much that my bosses gave me about the worst dressing down I've ever had for something someone else started. Ever since day one in this project Lt. Takamura has been on my ass about one thing or another and it'd just make me feel better if I could find out why she feels she has to impress the Japanese viewpoint into me. I gave up that portion of my heritage a long time ago for good reason.

[Raleigh's going to take another swig and look at Yuuya rather calmly. He may or may not intend to do something stupid. Its the helping people thing he has really.]

Well maybe we can get her to ease off a bit. You've already taken a beating and what got said's been said.

Might not be Marshall Pentecost, but I'm betting me and Yancy can get a few words in.

I wouldn't want to give her the satisfaction of knowing she got so far under my skin. [Yuuya takes another long swig, killing the rest of his bottle.]

Really she doesn't get to me as much as that asshole Ken did and I probably could have dealt with them one at a time but they caught me back to back and that didn't leave much of a window to calm down. Really just having an ear to vent at that wasn't going to give me the "Well you need to just suck it up do what they say" when all they ever talk about is pretty proverbs and criticisms about how I'm a disgrace to the Japanese people.

[He glances towards the doorway where a young Japanese woman is walking across the hangar looking from side to side.]

And speak of the devil here's she is now, come to check up on me no doubt. [He tosses the empty beer bottle in with the other empties and stands up.] Thanks for being a sympathetic ear, I hope we get a chance to sortie together sometime, though if we go up against the BETA you'll probably want to keep your head down until we can clear out the Laser class, I'd hate to see Gypsy be reduced to a pair of legs after they burn of the rest of it.

[With a smile and wave Yuuya turns and heads towards the young woman who's face immediately hardens and a few quick words are exchanged between the two before he follows her out of the hangar.]

"You know, Raleigh." Yancy says, observing the departing Yuuya with curiousity. "I do believe that guy is a self-loathing racist."

With issues the size of a Cat-two? Yeah.

[Welp, beer's finished. Hopefully Yuuya's racism won't be that much of an issue in the future.]
